Our Great Taste Award

The Great Taste Awards, established in 1994 is known as the "Oscars of the food world." A prestigious international food and drink awards competition organized by the Guild of Fine Food. The awards aim to recognize and reward high-quality products from a wide range of food and drink categories, from artisan cheeses to craft beers and fine wines.  The awards are considered a benchmark of quality and are highly respected in the food and drink industry.

Advieh-E Khoresh

In 2022, we entered, and won a star, with our Persian spice blend. "Advieh-E Khoresh" This aromatic spice blend is full bodied, rich in Black Lime (Loomi) from the country of Oman, Rose Petals from Türkiye (Turkey) and Saffron from Spain alongside flavours such as Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Turmeric. It has a floral yet grassy scent with honeyed notes and subtle sweetness undertones. You can certainly taste the slight bitterness and spiciness from the rich Saffron.

Traditionally this blend is suited to lamb casseroles and lamb kebabs.

Kebab Platter

However, one of our customers loves to use this as a seasoning/rub for chicken thigh tray bakes, skin side on. A head chef at a leading 5 star London hotel says that it brings a special kind of “WOW” to risotto. We will let you decide for yourself. Check out our tried and tested Lamb casserole right here

If you are a fan of podcasts, then listen to 'The Food Talk Show’ where they discuss our award winning Advieh-E Khoresh alongside some other amazing products from 2022. It is a podcast called "Try January" 2023. Click here. Like us, if you don’t have any patience, fast forward to 24 minutes to listen to the review. There is some delicious conversations about the other four products, so try listen to the whole podcast. The presenters have used our blend for some roast potatoes with some olive oil. More so we think our favourite highlight is the fact that they think our little jar would easily last 6 months as a little really does go along way. Nevertheless, the one thing we can promise is that this blend can be tried all year around.

The Great Taste Awards are judged based on the following quality criteria:

  1. Taste: The most important aspect for the judges is to assess the flavour, texture and aftertaste of the product.
  2. Ingredients: The quality, freshness and seasonality of ingredients should be evaluated.
  3. Texture: The product's texture, consistency and mouthfeel are considered.
  4. Appearance: The visual appeal of the product, including colour, presentation and packaging.
  5. Aroma: The fragrance and smell of the product are evaluated.
  6. Innovation: Products that offer a unique and innovative approach to flavour or ingredients are also said to be recognized.

Fundamentally you should be transported on a journey of the senses. The judges use a blind tasting method to avoid bias and ensure that all products are evaluated objectively based on the quality criteria. Products that receive a high score are awarded one, two, or three stars.

The judges for the Great Taste Awards are a panel of over 500 food and drink experts, including:

  • Food critics
  • Buyers
  • Chefs
  • Cooks
  • Food writers

This diverse group of individuals with a wide range of expertise and knowledge are chosen for their expertise and ability to objectively evaluate the quality and taste of products based on the criteria set by the Guild of Fine Food.

It would be an underestimation for us to not acknowledge how proud we are of getting our first star. Needless to say our ambition has always been to deliver on great taste and quality. This award has given us unbiased credence in how we want to grow as a business. You can read more about Advieh-E Khoresh (Advieh khoresht) here
