Community Impact

Camelēr Spice Co. is committed to leading the way in promoting a circular economy approach: Refill, Reuse, Recycle. Our closed-loop system significantly enhances our operations while effectively reducing waste. Please see our Reclamation Program here

Our mission extends beyond the provision of spice blend products. We recognise the importance of addressing the pressing environmental and social challenges of our time. This commitment, effective immediately, is integral to our corporate social responsibility.

Accordingly, we commit to donating 2% of our annual sales revenue each year to charitable organisations that work to effect meaningful change in areas that align with our mission and values, particularly those that emphasise innovation, sustainability, and ethical practices.

Our donations are allocated as follows, with each category receiving 1% of our annual sales revenue:

  • In support of people and communities
  • In support of a healthier planet

In Support of a Healthier Planet: 1% for the Planet

We acknowledge the urgent need to address environmental challenges and are committed to contributing to the preservation of the natural world for future generations. To this end, we have partnered with '1% for the Planet,' an organisation dedicated to harnessing collective giving power to advance environmental solutions.

'1% for the Planet' is a global network of businesses, nonprofits, and individuals collaborating to support environmental causes. Member companies commit to donating at least 1% of their annual sales to a network of approved environmental nonprofits. These organisations work diligently to address critical issues such as climate change, habitat conservation, and plastic pollution.

Through our partnership with '1% for the Planet', Camelēr Spice Co. pledges to contribute 1% of our annual sales revenue to an approved environmental charity or not-for-profit organisation, ensuring that our business actively supports environmental initiatives. Please read here to find out more.

This year, we have chosen to support WRAP - The Climate Crisis: Act Now.

WRAP is a charity that collaborates with governments, businesses, and citizens worldwide to promote sustainable resource use. Their impact spans the entire lifecycle of the food we consume, the clothes we wear, and the products we buy, from production through to consumption and beyond. Their mission is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, resource-efficient economy by:

    - Re-inventing how products are designed, produced, and sold through product and process innovation and supply chain collaboration.

    - Re-thinking how products are used and consumed through citizen campaigns and enabling collaborative change by businesses.

    - Re-defining possibilities through reuse and recycling initiatives, market and infrastructure development, and improved collections.

    Spotlight on Tree Aid:

    Focus: Poverty alleviation, environmental restoration

At Camelēr Spice Co., we are proud to partner with Tree Aid, an organisation that tackles the intertwined issues of poverty and environmental degradation in the African drylands. Through tree planting and land restoration, Tree Aid supports over one million people by helping them protect and restore their environment while generating sustainable livelihoods. Operating across countries such as Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, and Ethiopia, Tree Aid’s projects include forest regeneration, sustainable farming practices, and the promotion of tree-based enterprises like shea butter and honey production.

    Our Initiative:

In alignment with our commitment to environmental sustainability, we have introduced a donation option at checkout on our Shopify store. Customers can choose to donate to Tree Aid when making a purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to support their work in restoring ecosystems and combating poverty. This initiative provides our customers with an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change through every purchase they make with Camelēr Spice Co.

    In Support of Our Community:

    Spotlight on The Trussell Trust:

The Trussell Trust is a UK-based charity dedicated to eradicating hunger and poverty by providing emergency food parcels to individuals and families in crisis through a network of over 1,200 food banks nationwide. Their mission is to provide nutritionally balanced food parcels to those experiencing financial hardship, while raising awareness of the underlying causes of food poverty and advocating for long-term solutions. The Trust operates in partnership with local community organisations, churches, and volunteers, and relies on referrals from frontline professionals to provide targeted support. In addition to their direct provision of emergency food, they engage in advocacy and research to address the root causes of food poverty.

The Trussell Trust's work aligns closely with Camelēr Spice Co's commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. Therefore, we donate surplus products and research and development raw materials that are still good to use, ensuring that these resources are redirected to those in need, rather than going to waste. Overall, The Trussell Trust plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and poverty in the UK, aligning closely with Camelēr Spice Co's commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

    Spotlight on City Harvest (UK):

City Harvest operates across London, and surrounding areas, striving to address both food waste and food poverty. Their operations involve collecting surplus food from suppliers, including supermarkets, wholesalers, and food producers, and redistributing it to various charities, schools, and community groups. This rescued food helps to provide nutritious meals to those in need, while also diverting food from landfill, thereby reducing environmental impact. Through their innovative approach and strong community partnerships, City Harvest contributes to creating a more sustainable and equitable food system in the UK.

Camelēr Spice Co. is committed to supporting City Harvest's mission by donating surplus spices that meet their safety standards, including products that are up to 12 months past their best-before date. Due to the nature of spices, which are assessed for best-before rather than expiration, these products remain safe and suitable for use, ensuring they can still benefit those in need. Through these contributions, Camelēr Spice Co. plays an active role in reducing food waste and supporting food-insecure populations.

Spotlight on The Wild Camel Protection Trust UK:

The Wild Camel Protection Trust UK is dedicated to the conservation of critically endangered wild camels and their natural habitats. Recognising the importance of preserving these unique species, Camelēr Spice Co. seeks to establish a partnership with the Trust to support their conservation efforts and educational programs.

Our commitment extends beyond financial contributions. We aim to raise awareness about the plight of wild camels by actively contributing to the Trust’s campaigns and initiatives. This includes leveraging our platforms to educate our customers, partners, and the broader public about the importance of conserving these endangered species. Moreover, Camelēr Spice Co. actively encourage others to contribute financially to The Wild Camel Protection Trust UK. This will is achieved through various initiatives, such as matching donation programs, promoting the Trust’s work during our product campaigns, and an aim to hosting co-branded fundraising events. By fostering a broader community of supporters, we strive to amplify the impact of our contributions and ensure the ongoing protection of wild camels and their habitats.

Spotlight on Empowering Women in Business: Buy Women Built Community

Camelēr Spice Co. is proud to be part of the Buy Women Built community, a network that champions businesses founded and led by women. As a member since November 2023, we are committed to promoting female entrepreneurship and supporting women in business. Buy Women Built encourages consumers to choose products from women-owned companies, fostering a more equitable and diverse business landscape.

We are excited to be among a group of trailblazing female founders who are driving change and inspiring the next generation of women entrepreneurs.

    Spotlight on Educational Support:

Additionally, we are committed to collaborating with academic institutions to drive innovation and sustainable development in our industry. Current partnerships include the University of Aston and South & City College Birmingham (SCCB).

Furthermore, our partnership with the West of England Herb Group will focus on developing workshops on sustainable herb cultivation, organic farming, and herbal medicine. We will implement community events, presentations, and lectures, and monitor participation while gathering feedback to assess the effectiveness of these initiatives. These efforts will contribute to our goal of enhancing community engagement, environmental awareness, and sustainable practices, particularly in the field of herbs and spices.

    Volunteering

In addition, Camelēr Spice Co. will support a charity, chosen annually, through volunteering efforts. Each founder will commit to a total of two days of volunteer work each year, effective immediately.
