A celebration of Yemeni cuisine, this generational all-purpose blend has been passed down from our Aunt Khadījah. As an ancient staple in the Yemeni kitchen, this blend can take several forms—savoury, sweet, and even for coffee. Each version offers a harmonious and distinctly aromatic base to dishes and beverages. The rich, earthy alchemy varies from region to family, always kept as a secret.

Earthy, Nutty and Rich. A hint of nutty, bittersweet sharpness with a peppery base. You can really taste the layers of cumin, coriander, turmeric and caraway seeds in the savour.

    Native to Southeast Asia, it has an association with Indian cuisine for 4,000 years. It is considered to promote heart and brain health with immunity benefiting properties from its earthy notes of ginger and black pepper.

    Cloves

    Native to the Maluku islands of Indonesia. These dry unopened flower buds are native to the tropical Myrtle tree family. They are a rich source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. Often considered for their bacterial benefits.

    Turmeric

    Native to Asia, Europe and Africa, this seed is a relative of the carrot family. They are rich source of dietary fibre and considered great for gut health. Also known as Meridian fennel or Persian Cumin.

Origin

Hawaij is a celebration of Yemeni ground spices. Meaning “collections” or “combinations” in Arabic, as an ancient blend, and staple to the Yemeni kitchen, this blend can come in several forms, a savoury, sweet and for coffee. Each offering a harmonious and distinctly aromatic base to dishes and beverages. Our introduction here is the savoury form, used for day to day cooking and seasoning.
