Origin
Bahārāt is a sweet and smoky all-purpose spice blend rooted in the rich culinary traditions of the Gulf region. Our version is inspired by Sitto Fāṭimah, a family recipe passed down through generations from and honours the classic flavours of black lime (loomi), cinnamon, cloves, and warm aromatics, without any spiciness. While variations of Bahārāt are found across the Middle East and North Africa, this particular blend reflects the distinct taste of Arabian Peninsula cooking. Historically, Abbasid Baghdad was the first culinary capital of the Arabic-Islamic world, until Cairo rose to prominence after the Mongol siege in 1258 AD. This transition helped preserve and spread a refined culinary heritage throughout the region. Today, Bahārāt remains a staple in countless dishes, from rice and soups to grilled meats and stews, offering a flavourful connection to centuries of spice trade, tradition, and cultural storytelling.
